Matt is an expert at helping enterprises make the most of their intellectual property assets (‘IP’). He is familiar with all aspects of unregistered and registered IP protection, including patents, innovation patents and trade marks. Throughout his career, he has been engaged in managing IP rights, IP prosecution as well as licensing, strategic partnering, collaboration and contract service agreements to generate value from otherwise unproductive IP assets.
His passion is to make small to medium-sized companies more aware of their IP assets and to help them develop and execute strategies that protect and utilise those assets most effectively. He has extensive experience in structuring intellectual property transactions and negotiating business-to-business deals on the international stage. His business background is in the field of life sciences, in particular pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, biomedical devices and diagnostics.
Some of Matt’s previous roles have included Associate Director of the technology commercialisation company of the University of New South Wales, Senior Business Manager of CSIRO’s Corporate Transactions Team and Senior Business Manager at London-based CRC Technology.
Matt is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Member of the Licensing Executives Society (Australia & NZ). He managed the activities of AusBiotech Ltd in NSW for 5 years, most recently as Vice-Chair, and he has served for 4 years on the NSW Committee of the Licensing Executives Society. Matt received his Bachelor, Masters and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Cambridge, UK and has completed postgraduate executive programs at Macquarie Graduate School of Management.
