strategic planning

Business leaders are faced with choices every day. In a rapidly changing world, the impact of many of those choices will have a major bearing on the future success of the organisation.

It is a rare business leader who finds it easy to deal with the complexity and ambiguity surrounding them and who can consistently make the right choices.

At the heart of consistent, effective decision making lies strategy; the goals and choices that help to guide the organisation and its leaders through uncertainty and ambiguity to generate sustainable success.

The Winning Through Strategy program provides participants with a framework for developing and implementing a strategy for sustainable success.

The key topics are:

What is Strategy? The word “strategy” means different things to different people. In this session we explore those differences and come to a common understanding of what the word strategy means.

Strategic Thinking - Strategy is led by intuition. If it was simply a matter of putting data into a model and pressing a button, all firms competing in the same industry would have substantially similar strategies because the key data are all readily available. In this session we discuss and sharpen the participants’ capacity for strategic thinking and introduce the frameworks that help identify strategic choices.

Strategic Planning Tools - Whilst strategy begins with intuition, the goals and assumptions underlying the initial ideas need to be tested and the strategy developed into plans that can be put into action. In this session we practice using tools for further developing and refining strategic choices so that they can actually be implemented by the organisation.

This program is interactive with a mix of lectures, case studies, syndicate work and facilitated group discussion. Participants will be required to complete some pre-reading.

A two day course, with an optional third day covering Strategy Implementation.
